We recorded this outside my house in my neighbourhood in the DTES of Vancouver B.C. It is one of the oldest areas in the city with a complex set of social issues including disproportionally high levels of drug use, an overdose crisis, homelessness, poverty, crime, mental illness, and sex work. It is estimated that 60% of the population through out all of greater Vancouver area; with chronic mental Illness, disabling addictions, extreme behaviour, no permanent housing, and regular police contact live in the 10-50 blocks that are considered the DTES. I wrote this song one day where I was feeling pretty hopeless about those cycles. I’m in the process of recording this song to be released in the fall sometime.
